Chad Gibson: Rhythm Guitar

My dad is an excellent guitarist and singer, so my love of the guitar started from as far back as I can remember - watching him sing and play songs for my family. He had a Cherry Red electric guitar (an ES335 just like the one Clapton played in “Cream”) that he would keep on a stand in his bedroom. One day, when I was 12 years old, I picked up the guitar not knowing how to play a single note and was running my fingers along the strings when my dad came into the room and asked, “Do you want to learn how to play a chord?” and I became dedicated to the guitar ever since.

My introduction to Eric Clapton came from my Mom. She worked the night shift when I was around 3 or 4 years old and I would hear her come home from work in the early hours of the morning before anyone else in the house was awake. I would run into the kitchen and jump into her arms. She would put on “Wonderful Tonight” and slow dance with me and when the song would end I would say “Play it again, Momma!” and we would dance together all over again. “Wonderful Tonight” was the song she and I danced to on my wedding day.

I met a beautiful woman named Kelsey on November 11th 2015 and as we were getting to know each other that evening, Eric Clapton’s music was one of the first things we bonded over. When she found out I play electric guitar, she asked me who my favorite guitarist is and I answered “Eric Clapton”. She responded by telling me that she also loves EC and that she grew up with her dad playing and singing his songs. Needless to say, I married that woman! Now I get the opportunity to play in the band “After Midnight” with her dad, Rick Cortez, who is the lead singer and guitarist. Life is good!
